Jewish teacher, mother of four, dies in Long Island car accident

Allison Rahmani, 40, was able to call for help after her car entered her swimming pool in Hewlett, N.Y., but died in an ambulance en route to the hospital, a source familiar with the family told JNS.

Allison Rahmani, a Jewish teacher and mother of four, died after losing control of her car, which plunged into the swimming pool at her home in Hewlett, N.Y., on Friday.

Irving Place Minyan, a Modern Orthodox synagogue in Woodmere, N.Y., announced Rahmani’s death on Friday afternoon. Her husband, Matthew Rahmani, is the synagogue’s president.

Rahmani, 40, was a teacher and math coordinator at the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway.

A source familiar with the family told JNS that Rahmani did not drown. She was able to call for help but died in an ambulance en route to the hospital.

“We’re probably the only city in the state and in the country that raised the Israeli flag on our City Hall, next to our state flag, next to the American flag, and it stayed there for four months,” the mayor-elect told JNS.
